Innkeeper, Gretchen Stephenson, a licensed captain and charter
chef, since 1987, started her first Golden Slipper, a 1960 Chris
Craft 40' Cabin Cruiser with seventeen years of success, being
decommissioned in 2007.
Reviewing guest comments
from all over the world, the general consensus is that it was a very
positive experience, a unique getaway in a very urban setting. Guest
escaped to the boat for peaceful moments and relaxation on the aft deck
enjoying excellent views of the busy Boston Harbor. In the evening they
were rocked to sleep with a gentle motion to wake up to coffee and muffins
on the deck, greeting a new day in historical Boston Harbor. Most guests
comments always included the fabulous location, location, location within
walking distance to historical
attractions.
Gretchen married Jack Stephenson first mate in 1997 and always credits him
for keeping the B&B
“Afloat”. Recognizing there was a great deal of yearly maintenance for
Jack on the 1960 wooden Chris Craft and limited to the dock as it had no
working engines, the Stephensons decided to upgrade to their 1984
Catalina Chris Craft, as seen
above. The Stephensons have
been chartering, south of Boston, offering historic boat building
(1644-1878) tours since 1997. Some of their Boston guests enjoyed these
tours, but many wanted to stay in Boston Harbor and explore. Gretchen
& Jack realized that they should provide the option of a Boston Harbor
tour so the new boat has working engines ready to leave the slip if
guests desire. Gretchen’s background as a charter chef on a 65’
sailboat for 12 yrs finishes their package of offering gourmet
dinners for four to six guests either on a sunset cruise or at the
dockside.
Booked almost every day, during their six
months season, the Stephenson's wanted to continue their B & B afloat
in Boston Harbor, but make it even better. They now offer Golden Slipper
II, Boston's Bed and Breakfast, Cruise and Dine. Come and enjoy this
unique lodging
experience.
